Motivation and scope of researchEMN rapport over mensenhandel

  • One of the priorities of the EU Strategy on Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings 2021-2025 is to protect, support and empower victims. Previously, victims from outside the European Union have not been looked at specifically in relation to migration flows. This research provides an overview of current measures in EU Member States, Norway and Georgia to detect, identify, and protect victims of human trafficking (from outside the EU/EEA).
  • The research contributes to the European Commission's (EC) evaluation of the Anti-Trafficking Directive.

Content

The research findings provide an overview of:

  • the legal context and measures at an EU level for protecting victims of trafficking in human beings;
  • national measures in EU Member States for detecting, identifying, and protecting victims;
  • human trafficking cooperation mechanisms between EU Member States, EU agencies, international organisations, countries of origin and transit countries, and;
  • challenges and good practices for detecting, identifying and protecting victims of trafficking, focusing on the specific challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
