On 12 June, the Pact on Asylum and Migration entered into application. Since then, the new and revised rules that make up the European asylum policy have been in effect.

When the Migration Pact comes into effect on 12 June 2026, the Netherlands wants to reduce the waiting period for access to the labour market for asylum seekers to 3 months. Italy and Greece aim for a maximum of 60 days.

The Netherlands is one of the few EU Member States that informs applicants of a proposed asylum decision. An individual can then respond to a rejection with the migration authority, outside of court. Estonia and Poland have a similar procedure.
