The EMN Netherlands website must be accessible to everyone. This means that everyone should be able to use it, also people with reduced vision or, for example, people who have difficulty reading or are easily distracted by moving images. The website must also work properly in all web browsers and on all devices (such as mobile phones and laptops), and be readable by search engines.
Website accessibility requirements
An accessible website complies with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, the international standard for web accessibility. In the Netherlands, all government websites are required to comply with these guidelines. This is set out in the Digital Government Act/Wet digitale overheid (page in Dutch) which entered into force in July 2023.
In the summer of 2025, EMN Netherlands commissioned an authorised audit agency to examine how the accessibility of our website should be improved. The website currently has accessibility status B. We are developing a new website and will incorporate the audit findings into it, the new website is expected to go live by the end of 2026.
