EMN inform on the development of national migration strategies in EU Member States and EMN Observer Countries.

Background and scope

• Under the new EU Asylum and Migration Pact, EU Member States are required to develop a national migration strategy (EU Regulation 2024/1351, Article 7). This aims to ensure that countries have sufficient resources, staff and funding to implement their asylum and migration policy effectively and to comply with European and international obligations.
• In light of this future obligation, this study maps which migration strategies EU Member States and EMN Observer Countries currently have in place, how these strategies were developed, and how countries monitor progress in implementing their migration strategy.
• The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) contributed to the study.
